In these days of soaring property
prices, the Gers region is one of the
few French regions which are still
affordable. In Auch, the main city in the
department, the price per square metre
for older properties stands at an average
of 1230 euros. Average house prices are
also reasonable. In Condom, for instance,
they have risen by less than 1% over a
year and a 70 m2 residential house sells
for 93,500 euros in other words 1350
euros per square metre on average.
The Gers region can be broken down
into five separate areas. In Auch, the true
heart of the department and which is
representative of the various architectural
types to be found in the Gers region,
demand is obviously closely linked to job
opportunities. The Armagnac area is more
appealing to lovers of vineyards and halftimbered
houses. Lomagne offers a more
typical heritage with its manors and its
houses built with exposed stone. On the
Toulouse side, the Gers region offers
some more recent housing. And property
prices are generally lower in the flat country
to the south, as are those in the town
of Astarac. The region also has some
beautiful houses offering investment
opportunities as they can be converted
into "gîtes"
