Aquitaine: the south, Atlantic version

Photo Aquitaine Region - France Real Estate

Bordered by 250 km of Atlantic coast to the west, the "Silver Coast" and the Pyrenees to the south, Aquitaine is a region of a thousand facets, each more attractive than the others. France's third largest region is the queen of the art of living, good food and wine, and also offers a wide variety of landscapes: the Landes forest, mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arcachon Basin, lakes and rivers. Lovers of all these different types of nature will find their pleasure in Aquitaine. And the region has plenty to offer in terms of cities and dynamism. Bordeaux, the region's administrative centre and prefecture, is known worldwide at least for its wines and, more recently, for its Port de la Lune, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in June 2007. The region Aquitaine is also dotted by other large towns. Biarritz, the holiday destination of the Empress Eugénie, is still a seaside resort well-known for its charm and for its huge "rollers", which attract large numbers of surfers.
